Tom Ryan

Tom Ryan is an EIR in Bessemer’s Larchmont office. He works with Rob Stavis and Jeremy Levine investigating opportunities in the digital media sector.

Tom joined BVP after a decade-long career in digital music as both an entrepreneur and an executive. Most recently, he served as global senior vice president of digital and mobile strategy and business development at EMI Music. Tom took that position after leading EMI’s North American digital business development group and, previously, the company’s mobile development efforts.

Before joining EMI, Tom led mobile music strategy and business development at Virgin Mobile USA. During his tenure, Virgin Mobile became the largest seller of mobile content in the US on a per-subscriber basis.

Tom came to Virgin Mobile from eMusic, after it bought Cductive, the online mp3 music retailer he co-founded in 1996. By the time of its 1999 acquisition, Cductive had aggregated and made available for sale the world’s largest exclusive digital music catalog. Tom worked at eMusic during 2000 and advised the company on its re-launch in 2004. eMusic is now the second largest online retailer of music downloads after Apple's iTunes Music Store.

Prior to founding Cductive, Tom lived in Europe for five years. A dual citizen of the US and Ireland who speaks five languages, Tom holds a BA in Government from Dartmouth College and an MBA from INSEAD in France. His blog can be found at http://thomasryan.typepad.com.
