Rani is an entrepreneur-in-residence (EIR) at Bessemer Venture Partners. Prior to BVP, Rani was Vice President of Marketing at Blue Apron, leading all brand and customer acquisition functions. Rani joined Blue Apron as employee #8 in 2013, and as the first marketing hire she was charged with establishing the brand as the market leader, leading to its IPO in 2017. Her responsibilities included all paid marketing (digital and offline), marketing analytics, PR, brand campaigns, creative agency management, content, social media, consumer insights, and marketing analytics.
Before Blue Apron, Rani worked in brand management at Unilever where she led the Dove soap business and developed new products for Breyers ice cream. During her tenure at Dove, Rani increased growth of the business by 9X by developing high performing marketing/promo plans such as partnering with Costco to test and implement new merchandising strategies. On Breyers, Rani negotiated deals with the largest global cookie and candy brands to develop a range of co-branded ice creams that secured Breyers additional shelf space and distribution at key retailers like Wal-Mart. The launch of this range was the largest innovation in all of Unilever North America in 2010 in terms of incremental revenue, and Rani subsequently developed it into a global platform for Unilever’s ice cream businesses in Latin America, Asia, and Europe. Prior to Unilever, Rani spent three years as a consultant at Bain & Company, and worked in Strategy and Business Development at Warner Music Group.
Rani has an MBA in Entrepreneurship and Marketing Strategy from Wharton, a Bachelors in Economics from Harvard, and certificates in Cuisine and Pastry from Le Cordon Bleu in Paris. When not building businesses, Rani spends as much time as possible traveling. Recent adventures include shark diving in South Africa, driving ATVs through rice paddies in Cambodia, snorkeling in Bali, and a road trip from San Sebastian, Spain to the Northern coast of France.
