Bessemer Venture Partners promotes Eric Kaplan to Vice President
A former operator with payments industry experience, Eric brings practical wisdom and a customer-first mindset in partnering with visionary founders in financial services, developer tools, and enterprise software.
At Bessemer, we’ve invested in financial services through several waves of innovation where we’ve witnessed the power of inventing new products, business models, and leveraging world-changing technologies to disrupt the world’s largest economic sector. Our Fintech investing practice has evolved and grown over the years, and in this spirit, we celebrate the promotion of Eric Kaplan to Vice President. Since joining Bessemer in 2022, Eric has applied a combination of operating and investing experience toward building new roadmaps and founder relationships for the firm.
Eric primarily focuses on investments in financial services, developer tools, and enterprise software. He currently serves as a board observer for Alloy, Basis Theory, Brightwheel, Incognia, Lithic, Nilus, Oper, Papaya Payments, Sixfold, Supermaven, and Upvest. Eric has also been closely involved with other investments, such as Thunes.
“Eric’s first-hand knowledge of builders’ challenges, alongside his understanding of sophisticated industry regulations and trends, have together helped him forge new partnerships with mission-driven entrepreneurs,” shares Charles Birnbaum, Partner at Bessemer Venture Partners. “His experience and rigor have helped him provide practical insights to many of the Bessemer portfolio companies that he works closely with. We are incredibly excited to see what Eric does next.”
"What excites me most about being an investor is the privilege of learning from builders and leaders who are far smarter than me," says Eric. "Every day, I have the opportunity to meet with entrepreneurs who are leading experts in their respective fields. But nothing beats hearing our portfolio companies' success stories through the eyes of their customers. It puts into perspective why technology can help reshape the world we live in."
Before joining Bessemer, Eric held investing, growth product management, and consulting roles at Firstmark Capital, Via, and Monitor Deloitte, respectively. Eric graduated summa cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania with a BA in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics, and received his MBA from Harvard Business School.
Outside of work, Eric is an avid reader with a particular interest in historical fiction. He's also a dedicated fan of Seinfeld and enjoys attending live music events. As a New York sports enthusiast, you might catch him rooting for the Jets.
