Bessemer Venture Partners promotes Sofia Guerra to Partner

Sofia has made her mark in the health tech ecosystem by collaborating with the next generation of health AI founders and authoring rigorous benchmarking research.

At Bessemer, the strength of the firm depends on how our investors forge new roadmap strategies and collaborate with entrepreneurs to build category-defining companies. As our newest partner, Sofia Guerra has demonstrated exceptional leadership and insight within the healthcare ecosystem, partnering with exceptional teams and developing original research and market analysis that shape industry conversation. In her five years at the firm, her work ethic and resilience have already left an indelible mark on our health technology practice, which is why we’re pleased to promote Sofia to Partner. She has played a pivotal role in defining and advancing our health tech investment strategy and building authentic relationships with founders.

“Sofia exemplifies the kind of investor everyone loves working with,” shares Bessemer Partner Steve Kraus. “Her judgment is extraordinary, particularly in navigating complex, high-stakes decisions with clarity and focus on what truly drives outcomes. She fosters deep, enduring relationships with founders and colleagues alike, consistently leading with humility, diligence, and kindness.”

Earlier in her career, Sofia developed a thesis on the transformative potential of AI in healthcare, including the corresponding evolution of AI-powered administrative and revenue cycle management solutions well before the market’s current wave of adoption. Her conviction helped source and drive notable investments, including backing breakout companies like SmarterDx, which went on to be acquired by New Mountain Capital.

Beyond individual investments, Sofia helped launch the firm’s health tech benchmarks — research that has been a significant contribution to the venture and health innovation community. Building on this library, she led the creation of the Healthcare AI Adoption Index, which was introduced at Bessemer’s inaugural Healthcare AI Leaders’ Summit in 2025, where she introduced new research confirming healthcare’s rapid adoption of AI, trends among healthcare buyers, and how startup innovators can win their market.

Sofia’s collaborative spirit shows up in how she partners with founders building high-impact businesses in complex, regulated markets. As an investor, she’s energized by the possibilities of healthcare innovation, combining a thousand-foot view of the landscape with pragmatism when working shoulder-to-shoulder with entrepreneurs. This dual vantage point informs the way she shows up in the boardrooms of PrismTPO, Zingage, and Pivotal Health: pushing teams toward high-reward opportunities while staying grounded in the operational realities of healthcare delivery, regulations, and reimbursement.

Originally from Guatemala, Sofia immigrated on her own to the U.S. to pursue her education and career, a journey she describes as entrepreneurial in its own right. Her origins inspire her to believe in the “underdog” and those founders who defy expectations. Sofia is committed to backing the next generation of high-conviction entrepreneurs across healthcare, AI, and complex, regulated industries.
