Biography

With Bessemer’s Growth Fund, Andrew Schmitt focuses on early and growth stage cloud and consumer internet companies poised to define the next century. He is currently based in San Francisco.

As a Board Observer for businesses like EvenUp, Andrew loves working with ambitious entrepreneurs through different phases of the startup journey. Andrew invests extra time working with entrepreneurs on defining and measuring growth-stage KPIs, financial forecasting and benchmarking, scaling processes and culture, and any other one-off tasks he can do to help like finding new customers and hires. With later stage companies, Andrew also advises entrepreneurs on building a finance organization and IPO preparation. While Andrew has no software engineering skills (despite three computer science courses in his youth), he tries to make up for it with enthusiasm and the many lessons he’s learned from Bessemer’s robust network of operators and advisors. Andrew currently supports several of Bessemer’s roadmaps, most notably in cybersecurity, AI applications, and collaboration software.

Before Bessemer, Andrew worked in J.P. Morgan’s Technology Investment Banking Group, spending the majority of his time on software and internet IPO’s during the pre-COVID and COVID-driven Tech IPO Boom. Andrew helped execute the IPOs of CrowdStrike, ZoomInfo, DoorDash, Wish, LegalZoom, Definitive Healthcare, and ForgeRock. The front-row seat he got to world-class founder-led companies inspired him to want to work with early and growth stage startups.

Andrew earned his B.A. in Finance and Math from Washington University in St. Louis and played on the soccer team. Outside of work, he's an obsessive sports fan (especially of the Golden State Warriors), an avid reader, and enjoys traveling and discovering new music.
