Transforming fertility care in India with Pluro

Bessemer Venture Partners leads Pluro’s $14 million Series A to bring reliable, high-quality fertility care to families across India

In India, infertility affects over 27 million couples today. Lifestyle changes such as delayed family planning and rising obesity rates, along with biological factors including declining egg reserves, reduced sperm quality, and increased smoking and alcohol consumption, have all contributed to this trend. As a result, the demand for fertility care is growing rapidly.

The number of IVF cycles in India is expected to increase from ~300,000 cycles in 2024 to 550,000 by 2030, driven by cultural emphasis on parenthood, increased social acceptance of fertility treatments, and government-led initiatives that are reaching semi-urban and rural communities. Still, the IVF industry in India remains highly fragmented. Of the ~6,500 centres in India, nearly ~90% are standalone clinics. Patients, especially in Tier 2 and 3 cities, often struggle to find consistent, standardized, and trustworthy care.

Pluro’s approach to fertility care in India

Pluro is building a fertility platform designed to solve this problem by combining a seamless patient experience with best-in-class medical care. The company partners with reputed, highly experienced doctors, equipping them with a robust platform that provides technology and operational support in areas such as finance, HR, operations, and marketing. This allows doctors to focus on what matters most — delivering high-quality, personalized medical care — while patients benefit from a standardized, dependable, and outcomes-driven experience.

The company is on track to partner with and integrate 25 standalone IVF clinics over the next six months. The company’s aspiration is not only to build India’s largest fertility chain but also its most impactful one. Pluro’s model allows doctors to continue running their existing clinics while leveraging the efficiencies of a unified platform. The platform provides each partner doctor with equity participation, aligning incentives across the network and enabling wealth creation for doctors as Pluro grows. Patients, in turn, gain confidence in receiving consistent, high-quality care and industry-leading outcomes.

Why we partnered with Pluro

At Bessemer, we believe that organised single-specialty chains are uniquely positioned to deliver superior outcomes in India’s fragmented healthcare market. Focused platforms like Pluro can fill the gap left by larger hospitals, which often struggle to provide highly individualized care for outpatient needs. What gave us our deep conviction in Pluro is the strength of its founding team. Each founder brings more than two decades of medical and healthcare leadership experience:

  • Dr. Jaydeep Tank (CEO and co-founder), one of the earliest gynecologists to establish an IVF practice in India, has mentored over 20 specialists in setting up their own clinics.
  • Dr. Parikshit Tank (Co-founder), a widely published IVF specialist with over 80 peer-reviewed papers and four authored books.
  • Dr. Bhaskar Shah (Co-founder), a seasoned healthcare administrator and promoter of Jupiter Hospitals, a publicly listed chain with a market capitalization of $1.17 billion.

Together, this team combines world-class medical expertise with proven operational excellence, uniquely positioning Pluro to raise the bar for fertility care in India. We’re proud to partner with the Pluro team as they work to bring reliable, standardized, and compassionate fertility care to families across the country. Their mission reflects our broader thesis that technology-enabled, single-specialty platforms will redefine healthcare delivery in India’s most critical and underserved areas.
