Biography

Janelle Teng is a vice president in the San Francisco office where she focuses primarily on early-stage investments in AI/ML apps, data infrastructure, developer platforms, and defense tech. She specializes in applied AI and is passionate about supporting highly technical teams in the earliest stages. Currently, Janelle serves as a board director or observer for Claroty, Coactive, Databook, Netlify, Render, and Virtru

Janelle developed many of Bessemer’s AI infrastructure and defense tech frameworks. Additionally, she is a co-author of Bessemer’s annual State of the Cloud Report and Bessemer Growth’s Scaling to $100MM Series.

Before joining Bessemer, Janelle was a product manager at SalesforceIQ (formerly RelateIQ) where she led mobile development for Salesforce Inbox and was an inventor Einstein Email Insights. She began her career as a business analyst at McKinsey and Company.

A science enthusiast at heart, Janelle studied human biology and economics at Stanford University, where she graduated with academic distinction and departmental honors. She also earned an MBA at Harvard Business School. Outside of work, you can find Janelle skiing off cliffs, reading non-fiction, or writing her Substack.
